Droupadi Murmu is a prominent Indian politician and the current Governor of Jharkhand. She
was born on June 20, 1958, in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. She is the first tribal woman
to become the Governor of any state in India.
Droupadi Murmu began her political career in 1997 as a member of the Mayurbhanj Zilla
Parishad. She went on to become a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Odisha in
2000 and held various positions in the state government. In 2014, she was elected to the Rajya
Sabha, the upper house of the Indian parliament, where she served until her appointment as
Governor of Jharkhand in 2018.

& later she started her political journey by being elected as councilor of Rairangpur
Nagar panchayat in 1997. She also served as National vice president of the BJP Party. By
doing good work at the party she was finally able to become the first tribal to become
Jharkhand governor.

She also served as Ministery of State with Independent Charge for Commerce and
Transport and Fisheries and Animal Resources Development. Apart from this, she was
also an MLA for 4 years from 2000 to 2004. She get Nilkantha award for her tremendous
work after becoming MLA and also she was portrayed as best party worker & MLA.
